after man drove truck into pedestrians in electronics district

(Newser) - A Japanese man plowed his truck into Tokyo pedestrians before jumping out and stabbing them, killing at least 7 and wounding 10 more, the AP reports. Police nabbed a 25-year-old man in the attack, which occurred in the city’s leading electronics district, a hotspot for young people. The suspect announced he had come “to kill people,” said a police spokesman. “He said he was tired of life.” More »

Chest compressions key in heart attack CPR, says health group

(Newser) - Reluctant bystanders can skip mouth-to-mouth resuscitation if they witness someone collapse from a heart attack, but should attempt "hands-only" CPR to save a life, the American Heart Association has recommended.  With less than a third of cardiac arrest victims receiving any form of CPR before it's too late, anything remotely resembling a chest compression could help, reports Reuters. (Newser) - Los Angeles police today arrested a gang member who they say shot five children and three adults at a city bus stop yesterday, the Los Angeles Times reports. Police say the suspect, a member of the Crips, had been trying to make a name for himself as an enforcer in recent months. He apparently was trying to shoot one target, who kept dodging between pedestrians. More »
