No. 1 North Carolina wins by 21 points
to reach Final Eight

(Newser) - North Carolina averaged 110 points in its first two games of the NCAA tournament but was held to a mere 68 tonight against Washington State. Didn't matter. The Tar Heels still managed to dominate and come away with a 68-47 win to advance to the Final Eight. The 21-point spread was the smallest margin of victory for UNC so far this tournament and was produced largely without the contributions of star Tyler Hansbrough early in the game. More »

Cougars shut down high-scoring Irish

(Newser) - Fifth-seeded Notre Dame got to experience tonight what Pac-10 offenses learned all season--good luck scoring against Washington State. The Cougars held the normally high-octane Irish to 24% shooting in a convincing 61-41 second-round NCAA Tournament win, reports the Associated Press. WSU held Big East Player of the Year Luke Harangody to 10 points. The Irish averaged 80.6 points a game. More »

(Newser) - Memphis continues their banner year with yet another win, this time crushing Tulane in the Conference USA tournament quarterfinals, 75-56. Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 17 points for the Tigers as they maintained their dominance of the Green Wave: Tulane hasn’t beaten Memphis since February 9, 2000. (Newser) - No. 8 Stanford's Brook Lopez took it upon himself today to make sure Thursday's Pac-10 battle with No. 4 UCLA means something. The 7-foot sophomore scored 19 of his 25 points in the second half, pulled down six rebounds and had four blocks as the Cardinal came back to beat No. 22 Washington State 60-53, reports the Associated Press.
