      5 Killed in Mongolian Election Riots

      Five people died and hundreds were injured in rioting yesterday against election results in the Mongolian capital of Ulan Bator, reports the BBC. Hordes of angry protesters supporting the opposition party took to the streets yesterday after victory was declared for the ruling party.       Charges against a 15-year-old who called Scientology as a ‘cult’ were dropped today, the BBC reports. The London police issued a mea culpa after a court ruled that the teen’s holding up a sign reading, "Scientology is not a religion, it is a dangerous cult," did not constitute “abusive or insulting” behavior. Officials bused the flame and relay runners from the bayside opening ceremony miles across town; after heading west toward the Golden Gate Bridge, the convoy turned south and headed for the airport.       Chinese police killed eight protesters and wounded dozens more overnight in Sichuan province when they opened fire on a demonstration led by Tibetan monks, the Times of London reports. The altercation started when police searched a Tibetan monastery, confiscating phones and images of the Dalai Lama. After arresting two, the police demanded all in the monastery denounce the Tibetan spiritual leader. More »
