      Rescuers May Bore Hole in Filipino Ferry

      As strong waves keep rescue ships at bay, Philippine officials are weighing two plans for getting inside the massive ferry that capsized with more than 740 people aboard. They will likely either send divers from below or bore a hole in the ship’s hull, the AP reports. “We're not ruling out that somebody there is still alive,” said one Coast guard official. “You can never tell.” More »

      A Red Cross aid boat delivering desperately needed supplies to the survivors of Cyclone Nargis hit a submerged tree and sank in Burma's Irrawaddy Delta today, reports CNN.       15 Dead in Brazil Ferry Accident

      A ferry taking passengers home from a nighttime party capsized yesterday in Brazil, killing at least 15 people, AP reports. Dozens more were missing in the Solimoes River, one of the Amazon's largest tributaries. Most of those killed were women. Some passengers swam to shore and others were picked up by nearby boats. The ferry, which was carrying at least 80 people, was grounded earlier this year after failing an inspection. More »

      Stingray Kills Boater off Fla. Keys

      A stingray leapt out of the water and struck a 55-year-old Michigan woman who was sunbathing on the deck of a boat off the Florida Keys yesterday, CNN reports. The woman, who was with her husband and children, was knocked to the ground and pronounced dead at a local hospital. No word on the specific cause of death yet, but local reports say she was impaled through the neck by the 75 lb. ray's barb. More »
