      The Associated Press has pulled a video described as depicting a tornado that hit Nebraska last weekend after a storm chaser claimed that it was faked. After Andy Fabel sold the clip to the AP, which passed it along to 2,000 websites, another man noticed similarities between it and his own footage of a twister that hit Kansas 4 years ago. More »

      Storms across the Midwest and East Coast this weekend forced hundreds to evacuate, destroyed homes, and killed 8 people, the AP reports. More than 10 inches of rain in much of Indiana caused flooding; more floods in Iowa were some of the worst in years. Falling trees, high winds, and lightning killed several people while others drowned. A tornado in Omaha, Neb., damaged buildings, but no injuries were reported. More »

At least four tornadoes touched down in Kansas, causing widespread damage and spooking a pair of runaway circus elephants. Heavy rains caused rivers in Iowa to burst their banks.       The first research linking vitamin D directly to cancer prevention shows the nutrient sharply reduces cancer rates in older women. Only 3% of the 1,179 women monitored while taking a combination of vitamin D and calcium developed cancer over 4 years, a 60% lower rate than those given placebos, according to the breakthrough American Journal of Clinical Nutrition study.
