      (Newser) - An exhaustive, two-state manhunt for an ex-convict suspected in eight grisly slayings ended with the man quietly arrested last night outside a bar known as a police hangout. Police knew from a number of witness reports that Nicholas T. Sheley, 28, was in the area, said the police chief in the St. Louis suburb of Festus, Mo. "He was desperate and he gave up without a fight. He's had a rough two days."   More »

      Mo. Gunman Kills 5 at City Hall

      (Newser) - A gunman opened fire tonight at a city council meeting in suburban St. Louis, killing five people before being shot to death by police, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Two others were wounded, one of them critically. Police said the man killed an officer outside City Hall, then entered the building and council chambers, where he shot the others.  More »

      (Newser) - A power outage trapped around 200 people in St. Louis's Gateway Arch last night. About 80 people were trapped in halted tram cars, while another 100 were stuck at the top of the monument. Evacuating the structure took about 2 hours.
