Breaking from presidential-campaign habits with a press conference, Sarah Palin thanked supporters, mentioned Joe the Plumber, and dodged the obvious question about 2012 today at the Republican governors confab in Miami, the New York Times reports. “The future is not that 2012 Presidential race, it’s next year and our next budgets,” she said, citing opportunity in 36 gubernatorial races in 2010.

Yes, Jack McBrayer is like Kenneth the Page, his 30 Rock character. Sort of. In an interview with Salon, the actor admits he’s “somewhat of a people-pleaser”—though the former Applebee's employee of the month has serious comedy chops. The Southerner met creator Tina Fey at Chicago’s Second City, and she “kind of wrote the part with me in mind,” he says.

The best and worst in a season about image

Los Angeles Times Nov 3, 08 11:23 AM CST

This election has been all about image—not just for the candidates, but for media personalities who have jumped into the fray. Scott Collins chooses its biggest success stories and failures in the Los Angeles Times : Rachel Maddow, MSNBC's new commentator, is brainy, funny, and capable. John King, CNN’s "Magic Map" guy, is a demographics whiz. Charlie Gibson of ABC took a beating over a “featherweight” Democratic debate.

John McCain capped a busy day of campaigning with an appearance on Saturday Night Live , where he teamed with his VP-lookalike, Tina Fey, to poke fun at himself and Barack Obama. In the opening sketch, he and "Palin" hawked wares on QVC because he's a true maverick—"a Republican without money"—and couldn't afford the bigger networks like Obama, USA Today reports. They sold "Joe" action figures: Plumber, Six-Pack, and Biden ("if you pull this cord, he talks for 45 minutes," said Fey.)

The life of a stylist is all about communication. When Sarah Palin appeared on Saturday Night Live , the show's designer had to convince her to scrap her fancy new clothes and instead dress the way she used to—in essence, to dress as the character of Sarah Palin as played by Tina Fey rather than the new (and more expensive) version of herself, Women’s Wear Daily reports.

Will Ferrell reprised his role as a bumbling George Bush for last night's special edition of Saturday Night Live to force his endorsement on an extremely unreceptive GOP "ticket." Ferrell first explained to Tina Fey's Sarah Palin that the vice president tells a president what to do and that it's the most important job in the land. Then Darrell Hammond's reluctant "John McCain" arrived for a clearly unwelcome endorsement.

Candidate tells People she's an intellectual, a voracious reader, and a great cook

Tina Fey's portrayal of Sarah Palin as a bubblehead is way off, the candidate tells People magazine in a joint interview with hubby Todd. Palin says she considers herself an intellectual and is a voracious reader, largely of historical books and autobiographies. The Looming Tower , a look at events leading up to 9/11, is her current reading material—along with a pile of briefing papers.

If you saw Alec Baldwin's courtly interaction with Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live and you're wondering what's gotten into the well-known liberal firebrand, he's wondering something, too: What's your problem? "What did some of you people actually think would happen?" he writes in a post that went up on Huffington Post today.

Comedy is taking a prominent place in the US election, and may be leaning even more leftward than usual, the Boston Globe reports. Tina Fey and David Letterman have brought the highest ratings in years with mockery of Sarah Palin and John McCain. And Jon Stewart, a savage critic of conservatives, always thrives in election years. Is there something liberal about comedy?

The largest audience in 14 years tuned in to Saturday Night Live to watch Sarah Palin come face-to-face with doppleganger Tina Fey, reports AP. Actually, it wasn't quite face-to-face as Fey skirted past the candidate after skewering her yet again at a faux press conference on the comedy show. The audience was estimated to be close to 14 million, a level it hasn't reach since 1994, when assaulted skater Nancy Kerrigan was guest host.
