Stricker Strikes It Big at Barclays

(Newser) - Steve Stricker shot a final-round 69 at The Barclays yesterday to best K.J. Choi and hoist his first trophy in over six years. Stricker's four birdies in the final five holes capped a masterful run at Choi, who'd taken a one-stroke lead with two enormous birdie putts. Stricker's 16-under 268 was good enough for a 2-shot win over the pack. More »

      Garcia DQed for Math Error

(Newser) - An error on a scorecard he signed caused Sergio Garcia to be disqualified from the PGA Championship in Tulsa, the culmination of a nightmare 2007 for him. The Spaniard's partner, Boo Weekley, misrecorded Garcia's 17th hole as a 4 when it was a 5. Had Garcia remained, he would have ended the day at a 9-over 219. More »

Woods Tees Up Victory in Tulsa

(Newser) - After an historic 7-under 63 at Southern Hills, Tiger Woods had no problem holding his lead in the third round of the PGA Championship today, even with a decidedly average 1-under 69. Woods will go into the final with a three-stroke lead over Stephen Ames—a position in which he's never lost a major. More »

      Woods Catches Fire in Tulsa

(Newser) - In his last chance to win a major in 2007, Tiger Woods hit a record-tying 63 in yesterday's second round at the PGA Championship in Tulsa. He recorded eight birdies against one bogey and would have hit 62, a score never achieved in 403 Grand Slam events, had his 18th-hole putt for birdie not lipped out. More »

      Tiger Gears Up for Championship

(Newser) - Tiger Woods hopes to carry last week's success at Firestone over to this week's PGA Championship at Southern Hills, a course where he's struggled in the past—he finished 12th there in the 2001 US Open. But his strategy will be markedly different from the one that carried him to victory at Firestone, the world No. 1 tells Golf's Pat Mahoney in a chat on the range. More »

Tiger Trounces the Field at Firestone

(Newser) - At Sunday's Bridgestone Invitational Tiger Woods did what Tiger Woods does best: win.  He left the field, including rival Rory Sabbatini, in the dust for an eight-shot victory.  Aside from a crazy 9th hole, where the entire final group struggled, Tiger was dominant.  He now heads to Southern Hills for the year's final major.  More »

Golf Tourneys Putt Short for Charity

(Newser) - As Tiger Woods's AT&T National tournament gets underway in Bethesda, corporate types are opening their wallets for the charity event—but, the Washington Post reports, their money may not go where they expect. Only about 15 cents out of every dollar raised by charity golf tourneys makes it to the recipient organization, says the director of the AT&T National, which benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation. Phil's Getting His Groove Back

(Newser) - Less than a year after a monumental 16th- and 18th-hole collapse at the 2006 U.S. Open, Phil Mickelson demonstrated his recovered mojo at the PGA Players Championship, cruising to a 69 on the final 18 en route to an 11-under 277.  The one blip was an 18th-hole shot that stopped just short of the water.
