(Newser) - LeBron James had 34 points and 12 rebounds, and dished the ball to Delonte West for a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 5.4 seconds left Sunday, helping the Cavaliers get past the Wizards 100-97 to take a 3-1 lead in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference playoff series. (Newser) - Ryan Malone scored Pittsburgh's third power-play goal of the game with only 1:02 remaining and the Penguins squandered a three-goal lead against Ottawa, then rallied for a 5-3 victory Friday over the Senators and a sweep of their first two home games in the Eastern Conference playoff series. (Newser) - Held without a shot until late in the third period, Alex Ovechkin stole the puck and netted the tiebreaking goal with 4 1/2 minutes remaining, leading the Washington Capitals to a 5-4 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference first-round series Friday. Buffalo's playoff hopes come to an end

(Newser) - Bryan Smolinski scored twice, Carey Price came within 8:30 of posting his second straight shutout, and the Montreal Canadiens beat Buffalo 3-1 on Thursday night, eliminating the Sabres from the playoff race. Chris Higgins also scored for Montreal, which is tied with Pittsburgh atop the Eastern Conference with 102 points. The Canadiens host Toronto on Saturday night. (Newser) - It looked as though New Jersey was going to skate away with a rare victory against the Rangers tonight, but Christian Backman changed all that with a game-tying goal in the 3rd period. (Newser) - The Wizards aren’t among the best in the NBA but they sure know how to play among them. They beat the Pistons tonight, 95-83, reports the AP, adding that to the two games each they've won against Boston, Dallas, New Orleans and Cleveland this season – all top performers in the league.  Antawn Jamison was the big man for the Wizards, scoring 24 points with 12 rebounds. (Newser) - Winners of five straight, the Boston Celtics continued their domination of the Eastern Conference today with a win over the Atlanta Hawks, 98-88. Paul Pierce accounted for 30 of the Celtics points, while Kevin Garnett  added 20 points and 16 boards, reports the AP.  Sam Cassell, recently waived by the LA Clippers, is expected to join the Celtics roster tomorrow night. (Newser) - The Nets took their season opener from the Bulls in overtime, 112-103.  It was their 12th straight win over Chicago on home court, causing the Bulls' Ben Gordon to say after, "I don't know what it is about this place."  Nets leading scorer Richard Jefferson, reports the Star-Ledger , pointed to a 4th quarter comment from referee Bennett Salvatore: "He kind of smiled and said, 'Rich, this is kind of like a playoff game.'"
