Mets' Implosion Continues
Everything is coming

New York Times Sep 29, 07 5:00 AM CDT
(Newser)
- A 7-4 loss to the Florida Marlins last night was the Mets' fifth straight, and the red-hot Phillies continued to take advantage of the collapse, moving a game ahead of New York in the NL East with two to play. If the Mets don't rally now, their slide would be among the worst in baseball history, writes the New York Times.

Bonds Bids Farewell to Giant Ovations
No homer, but wild cheers as slugger plays last game for Frisco
San Francisco Chronicle Sep 27, 07 5:42 AM CDT
(Newser)
- It was the end of an era last night in San Francisco as super slugger Barry Bonds played his last game in a Giants uniform. The all-time home run king finished the night 0-3, but that didn't stop a sold-out crowd from giving him standing ovations throughout the evening. There were few other opportunities for cheers, as Bonds' last-place team struggled through another lopsided defeat.

for final playoff spot
Associated Press Sep 27, 07 2:34 AM CDT
(Newser)
- The positioning didn't change yesterday in the three-team race for the wild card in the National League. But now a fourth team needs to be added to the mix. With the Padres, Phillies and Rockies all winning, San Diego remained one game ahead of the other squads. But the Mets' loss left them with the same record as the Padres, only a game up in both the NL East and the wild card.
