Wie Snubs Women's Major, Opts to Play in Men's Event

(Newser) - Michelle Wie seems to be getting some payback on the LPGA after being disqualified from a recent tournament for failing to sign her scorecard, notes Thomas Bonk in the Los Angeles Times . It may be just a coincidence, but when the women's British Open tees off this week, the 18-year-old will be nowhere near. Wie Forgets to Sign Scorecard, Has to Go Home

(AP) - Michelle Wie, playing her best golf of the year, forgot to sign her scorecard and was disqualified from the State Farm Classic in Illinois. Wie, 18, had finished the third round only one shot behind the leader. "I don't know why or how it happened," said Wie, who took no questions. Said the LPGA official who delivered the bad news to the teenager: "She was like a little kid after you tell them there's no Santa Claus." More »

Inbee Park the Youngest Winner of US Women's Open

(Newser) - Two weeks away from her 20th birthday, Inbee Park became the youngest winner of the US Women's Open today by closing with a 2-under 71 as everyone else around her faded away at Interlachen. Park didn't make a bogey over the final 10 holes, pulling away with three clutch putts early on the back nine and building a four-shot lead going to the final hole. She finished with a tap-in birdie, and a few of her fellow South Koreans doused her with beer. More »
