      Hero Dog Wins Cloning Contest

      (Newser) - A retired Canadian rescue dog who helped find the last survivor in the rubble of the World Trade Center has been chosen as the world's most clone-worthy dog, the Globe & Mail reports. A California genetics company chose 15-year-old German shepherd Trakr to be cloned after reading an essay from his owner. Trakr—who now needs a dog wheelchair to get around—will meet his clone later this year. More »

      Fla. Crane Crash Kills 2, Injures 4

      (Newser) - Part of a construction crane crashed into a building next to a Miami construction site this afternoon, killing two and injuring at least four, the Miami Herald reports. Workers on an unfinished 46-story luxury condo were raising an extension to connect it with the crane when the extension came loose and fell into a nearby house being used as a construction company office.       (Newser) - Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres broke down in tears on her program yesterday as she described a doggie adoption flub.  She and her partner adopted a pup named Iggy from an agency, but when the dog didn't get along with the couple's cats, Ellen gave it to her hairdresser. That violated her adoption agreement, and the agency repo'ed Iggy from the home. More »

      (Newser) - A black Lab who gained national attention with his rescue work at the World Trade Center site and later searched for Hurricane Katrina survivors has died. Jake, who lived in Utah, was 12 years old and suffering from cancer. Abandoned as a puppy with a broken leg, Jake helped train other rescue dogs and did therapy work with burn victims. More »
