Panel Rips Army Fraud 'Crisis'

Raps military on wasted contract billions

(Newser) - The Army is under fire for failing to train enough officers to supervise billions of dollars in contracts and allowing waste and fraud to flourish, reports the New York Times .  The problems have "created a crisis," according to an independent six-member panel appointed by Army Secretary Pete Geren and charged with investigating contracts to supply US troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. Chief misled probe after friendly fire

(Newser) - A retired three-star general has been censured for a "perfect storm of mistakes, misjudgments and a failure of leadership" following the friendly-fire death of ex-NFL star Pat Tillman, the AP reports. Lt. Gen. Philip Kensinger misled investigators probing Tillman's death, which was initially said to be the result of heroic action in Afghanistan, and may have his rank reduced. More »
