It was their 12th straight win over Chicago on home court, causing the Bulls' Ben Gordon to say after, "I don't know what it is about this place." Nets leading scorer Richard Jefferson, reports the Star-Ledger , pointed to a 4th quarter comment from referee Bennett Salvatore: "He kind of smiled and said, 'Rich, this is kind of like a playoff game.'"

The Sixers season opener did little to prove wrong the prognosticators who forecast the team would struggle, as Philadelphia lost 106-97 to the Raptors in Toronto. The Raptors lead by as many as 22 in the third quarter, until Philadelphia fought to cut the lead to one midway through the fourth. But they could never overtake the defending division champions, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer .

Tyrone Hanson, the Nevada basketball player who was robbed and severely beaten at a Halloween party that ended in three deaths, has been removed from the UNR basketball team for disobeying his coach. Mark Fox explained that Hanson "violated our policy by going out socially that evening while he had been directed not to," reports the AP.
