(Newser) - Police raided an evangelist’s compound in Arkansas seeking evidence into allegations that he physically and sexually abused children, CNN reports. Some 100 agents took part in the raid on the 15-acre grounds in Fouke near Texarkana. Authorities were interviewing several children throughout the weekend. Evangelist leader Tony Alamo ripped the accusations as "a hoax," and claimed he was being subjected to the same religious prosecution as Christ. More »

More than 150 pountry-processing workers arrested

(Newser) - Immigration agents raided a poultry-packing plant in Fairfield, Ohio, and arrested some 160 undocumented workers yesterday. The raid was part of a 2-year investigation into Koch Foods, which officials call an "egregious violator" of immigration laws, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Jefferson Wins Round, Return of Documents

Appeals court says FBI violated indicted congressman’s rights

(Newser) - Rep. William Jefferson scored a legal victory today, winning the return of privileged materials from a FBI raid on his office. An appeals court said the raid itself was not unconstitutional, but the search of legislative materials was illegal. It’s unclear whether the ruling will affect the 16-count indictment against the congressman, but the Justice Department said it changes nothing. More »
