      ESPN Crew Films as Gipper Unearthed

      (Newser) - Former Notre Dame football player George Gipp was exhumed recently to undergo DNA testing for an upcoming book on the legend’s life. Gipp, an All American, inspired the phrase “win one for the Gipper” after muttering it to coach Knute Rockne on his deathbed. ESPN was on hand to film the exhumation for an upcoming feature on the famed athlete, the Houghton Daily Mining Gazette reports. More »

      Notre Dame: Jones May Go, Not to Illinois

      (Newser) - Notre Dame announced yesterday that it will release quarterback Demetrius Jones from his scholarship, but only if he transfers to a school not on Notre Dame's "immediate future football schedules," reports AP.       (Newser) - One of college football's greatest  battles will be fought for another quarter century: the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are slated to play the Michigan Wolverines at least once per season until 2031.
