Troubled actress Tatum O'Neal, who wrote a book on her addiction to drugs and alcohol, was arrested last night for buying crack cocaine down the block from her Manhattan luxury condo, the New York Post reports. O'Neal, who at 10 was the youngest person to win an Oscar, for Paper Moon , was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.

A young British father is set to begin trial today in the Massachusetts murder of his American wife and baby. Prosecutors say Neil Entwistle fired two .22-caliber bullets into wife Rachel and 9-month-old Lillian Rose as they snuggled under a quilt in bed. He was said to be depressed about debt, and unhappy with his sex life; according to court papers, he conducted online searches for escorts and information about murder before the bodies were found in early 2006.

A fourth foot in a sneaker has washed up on a Canadian shore, leaving investigators more puzzled than ever. Each of the three previous right feet have been in sneakers and have washed up on different islands near Vancouver over the last 10 months, reports the Globe and Mail. Robert Knox, a young British actor set to appear in an upcoming Harry Potter movie, was stabbed to death outside a London bar early today, the Daily Mail reports. Two bullets struck a Los Angeles sheriff’s helicopter and forced it to make an emergency landing, the Los Angeles Times reports. Noone was hurt. The chopper was on its way to investigate a robbery when bullets hit its belly and tail, apparently from a high-powered rifle. Three people were wounded yesterday when a gunman involved in a child custody battle opened fire on his ex-girlfriend at a church school festival in San Fernando Valley, reports the Los Angeles Times . Families ran screaming as the gunman nonchalantly lifted his rifle and began squeezing off rounds in front of his 9-year-old son. Two bystanders tackled him and held him for police. All three victims are in stable condition.
