      (Newser) - Isiah Thomas was fired today as head coach of the New York Knicks, the Times reports. Team president Donnie Walsh said that Thomas will remain as an adviser, although he’ll have no direct responsibilities. The Knicks were 56-108 in his two seasons at coach; they've made little headway since Thomas was named team president in 2003 and tasked with rebuilding the franchise. More »

      Lost Photos of Elvis Discovered

      (Newser) - Close to 40 photographs of a jump-suited, cape-toting Elvis Presley rocking the house at Madison Square Garden in 1972 have surfaced and will be on display next month at Graceland in an exhibit entitled, "Elvis Jumpsuits: All Access." One of them already graces a Times Square billboard. A longtime official Garden photographer discovered the shots while sifting through old files, AP reports. More »

      The Garden to Get a New Look

      (Newser) - Madison Square Garden is getting a  $500-million overhaul. After pulling out of a plan to build a new arena as part of a new Penn Station project a few blocks away, Cablevision, the Garden's owners, unveiled a renovation plan yesterday.  The work is slated to start next spring and be done during the summers,  finishing by the 2011-2012 NBA and NHL seasons. The Liberty will have to relocate, but the Knicks and Rangers will stay put. More »
