Greenies Find God Might Be the Answer

How much carbon would Jesus use? Not much, say the religious communities now teaming with environmentalists to lobby Capitol Hill. As a carbon-capping bill approaches the Senate, eco-advocates hope that church partnerships will re-frame the debate, and religious leaders rail against the desecration of divine creation and the suffering of the poor coping with energy costs and food shortages. Jackson Recalls MLK, Targets Urban Youth

Jesse Jackson was outside the Lorraine Motel when Martin Luther King Jr. was killed, 40 years ago today, and the sound of the gunshot still echoes in his memory. Jackson talks with the Chicago Sun-Times about that day, and how race relations have "detoxified"  in the ensuing years. But King, he said, would have been distressed that the nation still has "first-class jails, second-class schools." More »

A golf commentator's quip that the only way young challengers could defeat super pro Tiger Woods would be to "lynch him" has earned her a two-week suspension and sparked a furor. The Golf Channel's lead anchor Kelly Tilghman made the comments in response to an on-air analyst's jokey suggestion that golfers should "gang up" to take on Woods. Sharpton Insists He Still Has a Role to Play

Is there a place for Al Sharpton in a Barack Obama world? The first black politician with a serious shot at the Oval Office hardly mentions race, whereas Sharpton is, as one historian puts it, “kind of a racial ambulance chaser.” But Sharpton isn’t worried. “They say we don’t matter,” he tells the Washington Post , then “they want to know who we’re endorsing.” More »

On Tape, Sharpton Cuts Deal for Campaign Cash

Someone should have told Al Sharpton he was on candid camera. Now Sharpton is under investigation for possible tax fraud and campaign finance violations, but he insists that he’s done nothing illegal and that the tape vindicates him. More »
