(Newser) - The pit bulls rescued from disgraced NFL star Michael Vick's underground fighting ring are getting a rare second chance, the Washington Post reports. A federal judge ordered each dog evaluated individually and fined Vick $1 million for their care. Now, 25 of the 49 dogs have been adopted into foster homes while the rest are being rehabilitated at animal sanctuaries. More »

Vick Helped 'Execute' Dogs: Co-Defendants

Decision remains secret after 9 AM plea deadline passes

(Newser) - Michael Vick helped hang, drown and otherwise execute around eight dogs in connection with his dog-fighting enterprise—and supplied most of the money for the infamous Bad Newz Kennelz, say his two co-defendants. The three men killed the dogs that "did not perform well in 'testing' sessions'," according to court papers filed as Vick's co-defendants pleaded guilty today. More »
