as Milwaukee Bronzes Fonz

Sitcom's cast turns out to see icon of cool achieve immortality

(Newser) - More than 500 people showed up today to celebrate the addition of Milwaukee’s newest landmark, a 5-foot-6 bronze statue of Happy Days character the Fonz, the Journal Sentinel reports. Most of the cast of the 1970s TV hit showed up for the event, presided over by comedian John McGivern. "It's a perfect symbol of optimism," he said of the statue’s pose. "The most famous thumbs-up in the world." More »

MillerCoors Taps Chicago for New Headquarters

Conglomerate to merge operations from Denver, Milwaukee

(Newser) - Chicago will be home to the new corporate headquarters of beer conglomerate MillerCoors, the Tribune reports. The Windy City edged out Dallas to serve as a neutral location for the nerve center of Denver-based Molson Coors and Milwaukee-based Miller. Chicago attracted MillerCoors because it has "access to an attractive base of talent, transportation and business resources," company president Tom Long said. More »

Thanks to private donations and teenagers who bought “Bronze the Fonz” T-shirts, the tourist bureau has raised $85,000 to erect a permanent bronze tribute to Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli, the leather-jacketed biker in the Milwaukee-set '70s hit sitcom “Happy Days.” But the the local art community isn't impressed; one gallery is even said to be closing in protest. (Newser) - Freezing rain and snow continued to pelt Iowa today as the rest of the Midwest struggled with power outages, treacherous roads, and tangled air traffic in the aftermath of yesterday's storm. A three-year-old emu named Myron wound up in the big-box store’s parking lot after being chased from a local farm by a coyote, the AP reports. Cleveland fans will have to commute 400 miles to Milwaukee

(Newser) - Three snowed-out Indians games, relocated to Milwaukee, will cost the city of Cleveland $150,000 in anticipated tax revenue, according to estimates by city officials.  The Indians' series against the Angels has been preemptively moved to Miller Park, where roughly 36,000 fans are expected to make the 400+ mile commute.
