(Newser) - Wes Helms singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth and the Florida Marlins beat the Washington Nationals 6-5 last night. Helms' one-out grounder up the middle off reliever Saul Rivera (1-1) scored Dan Uggla from second, ending the Marlins' two-game losing streak. Mike Jacobs and Jorge Cantu had three hits each for Florida. Josh Willingham had two hits, including a triple, and scored twice. More »

(Newser) - Jeremy Hermida hit two of Florida's team-record six home runs and the Marlins roughed up Roy Oswalt and the Houston Astros 10-6 Friday night for their fourth straight victory. Oswalt (0-3) gave up four home runs in a game for the first time in his career. Hermida had his first multihomer game in the majors. More »

(Newser) - Mark Hendrickson and Jorge Cantu helped the Florida Marlins complete their first three-game road sweep of the Washington Nationals. Hendrickson pitched seven strong innings, while Cantu produced three hits and two RBIs as Florida beat Washington 4-3 tonight to stretch the Nationals' losing streak to seven games. Hendrickson gave up one run, three hits and struck out two. More »

While Conine says he's thrilled with the chance to take part in a pennant race with the leaders of the National League East, the struggling Reds continue their efforts to build a winning squad with young prospects.
