Bill Shaheen, Hillary Clinton's New Hampshire campaign co-chairman, resigned today over his remarks that rival Democratic candidate Barack Obama’s teenage drug use could leave him vulnerable to Republican attacks in a general election, the Boston Globe reports. Clinton apologized personally to Obama for Shaheen’s remarks at Reagan National Airport before they headed for today's debate in Iowa.

Hillary Clinton’s lead in New Hampshire has evaporated, a CNN poll finds. Clinton's approval rating is at 31%, off 5% since November, leaving her in a statistical tie with Barack Obama, who's at 30%. Clinton’s support among female Democrats has fallen from 43% to 33%. Mike Huckabee hasn't replicated his Iowa surge—his 9% rating pales against GOP leader Mitt Romney's 32%.

No Republican candidate is viewed favorably by even half of the GOP electorate, according to a new poll that also found 76% of respondents might still change their candidate. The survey found Mike Huckabee overtaking Mitt Romney nationally, and statistically tied with Rudy Giuliani. Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, holds a substantial lead among Democrats, despite tight races in early-voting states.

Former second-tier candidate Mike Huckabee has jumped to top spot by virtually tying Rudy Giuliani in a national poll today, CNN reports. Mired at 5% of GOP votes only two months ago, Huckabee leaped to 22%, just 2% shy of Giuliani—well within the CNN poll's range of error. What's more, Huckabee is now number one among GOP hopefuls in Iowa.

Clinton's "Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World" faces off against Obama's "The Audacity Of Hope: Thoughts On Reclaiming The American Dream." Both already have Grammys—Obama last year, Clinton in 2004 and '05.

As Iowa's race heats up, so does the battle for New Hampshire. In the New England race, Clinton leads Obama 35%-29%, while Edwards trails with 17% and Richardson brings up the rear with 10%, according to a Washington Post -ABC News poll. All other candidates garnered less than 4% support. Clinton staffers hope that if she loses in Iowa she'll gain ground back in New Hampshire.

Democratic candidates are criticizing President Bush's plan to bail out homeowners in the subprime mess for not going far enough and have outlined their own, more ambitious, proposals, the New York Times reports. "It appears that the president is pushing a freeze for a very narrow group of borrowers,” said Hillary Clinton, who traveled to Wall Street to push for fixes. Bush will formally introduce his plan today.
