Conservative Gays

"Don't assume your freedoms are assured." --Unknown

Recognizing that not all GLBT people have (or should have) the same point of view and that "gay Republican" is as much an oxymoron as "religious Democrat", thus lies the impetus for this thread. Since neither the GLBT media or the mainstream media pick up on this topic except as a conversation piece every three months or so in a biennial election cycle, it is expected that this thread will generate a minimum of story hits. Nonetheless, it is important that there be some sort of indexing for this topic. Note that keywords were chosen to be as inclusive as possible, yet topical. Ideally, this thread will recognize that not all conservative GLBT persons are Republican or that all GLBT people who are Republicans are Log Cabin Republican members.

GOP Gays Feel Party Has Strayed

(Newser) - Log Cabin Republicans are growing in number, but they’re also growing in frustration that the Grand Old Party is abandoning fiscal prudence for social extremism. Claiming 20,000 members in 40 chapters, the 30-year-old gay conservative group says the Republican platform will lose its relevance unless it looks beyond the obsessions of the religious right and focuses on limiting government, Reuters reports. Cruising Senator Has Been Tough on Gay Rights

(Newser) - Idaho's outed senator has long wielded his political power against gay rights, and gay advocates, having heard whispers for years, have been keeping track. Larry Craig, whose arrest for cruising in a Minneapolis airport bathroom was made public yesterday, opposes civil unions, gays in the military, and the extension of hate crime law to prosecute violence based on sexual orientation, the Carpetbagger Report says.
