      Prescott eNews - Enrique Melendez, Honorary Consul for El Salvador, has announced that Ambassador Marisol Argueta de Barillas, the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the country of El Salvador will be coming to Prescott in November, 2008.

      Prescott eNews - This week, all 800 Arizona state judges - from simple magistrates to Arizona Supreme Court Judges - will be in Tucson to participate in the Holocaust Ethical Leadership course, jointly developed by Polk and the Holocaust Museum.     • Plane Crash Outside of Bagdad, Az

      On May 17, 2008, at approximately 7:30 P.M., the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center (AFRCC) that their satellite had detected an aircraft emergency landing locator signal. The staff member at the AFRCC told YCSO that the signal location was in the area northwest of the Bagdad Airport and they were unable to verify if a plane crash actually occurred. Deputies were sent to the area and spent several hours searching in darkness but could not locate a downed aircraft or a pilot.

    • City of Prescott Budget: Outside Legal Fees

      Coming up with a budget for an entire city is a demanding job for any small government. But Prescott has special challenges in the fact that they’ve taken on the task of trying to pump water from the Big Chino Water Ranch, which is outside their Active Management Area (AMA). It took a special act of the legislature in 1991 for the city to be able to do this, and still they are faced with legal challenges to the project. On May 22nd the city will meet off-site to start to bring together the budget, something city staffers have been working on since January. The current city budget is 444 pages...

      Prescott Mayor Jack Wilson has allegedly refused to meet with the diplomatic envoy from El Salvador, Mr. Enrique Melendez. And make no mistake, having the Mayor of Prescott, Arizona, show cavalier disrespect to an official representative from the foreign government of El Salvador, which as a country is a staunch ally of the United States, is indeed a problem. Mayor Wilson needs to meet with Mr. Melendez and accept his credentials.

      The Prescott Police Department will not receive ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) certification training for any of their officers in the forseeable future, according to Mayor Jack Wilson, "They [ICE] basically told us that we're never going to get that unless somebody changes policy. And so we had representatives and ICE said it's not going to happen. So I don't think we're going to bang our head up against the wall."

    • Corporal Tibor Rubin visits the VA Medical Center in Prescott

      Seated in a wheelchair, Corporal Tibor Rubin, the only Holocaust victim to ever be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, was pushed into a recreation room at the Bob Stump VA Medical Center in Prescott. Immediately upon entering the room, he started to comfort the residents with a greeting, "You are going to be alright," Rubin said with encouragement. "Don't give up."
