(Newser) - Massachusetts will now allow gay and lesbian couples from other states to marry there. Gov. Deval Patrick today signed a law overturning a 1913 measure originally crafted against interracial marriage, the Globe reports. Massachusetts is the second state, after California, to allow same-sex marriages, regardless of residence. A flood of couples is expected from New York, which does not marry gay couples but recognizes unions from elsewhere. More »

(Newser) - One of the US attorneys fired in the 2006 sweep by Alberto Gonzales' Justice Department says she believes rumors of a lesbian relationship with a top prosecutor cost her the job and derailed the prosecutor’s career. “I am persuaded with deep regret that this is what was the basis,” Margaret Chiara told the Los Angeles Times after yesterday’s damning report by the department’s inspector general. (Newser) - Residents of the Greek island of Lesbos have lost a legal battle to block the use of the word lesbian to describe a sexual preference. An Athens court threw out a lawsuit an islander filed against a Greek gay rights group with lesbian in its name, arguing that  they have exclusive rights to the term. The court ruled use of the word does not impinge on islanders' rights. More »
