McCain Likes It Luxe

A handful of houses, 13 cars. Seems like the would-be prez doesn't want for much.

Of course, the article does not say that only ONE car is actually his and the others are registered under his wife's name since she is into cars (drifting, etc). Oops, it does say that...only at the end of the article!

Go All In on Afghan War, McCain, Lieberman Say

(Newser) - Barack Obama’s strategy for Afghanistan must roundly reject the so-called “minimalist” approach being whispered about in DC, write John McCain and Joe Lieberman in today’s Washington Post. The minimalists want the US to focus on limited, “realistic” counterterrorism goals. But McCain and Lieberman remind Obama that during the campaign he called Afghanistan “the war we must win.” More »

(Newser) - Meghan McCain, who has recently attacked certain prominent female conservatives, is a “flavor of the month” being manipulated by the media, says one of her targets. Laura Ingraham writes on her blog—under the title 'Useful Idiot' Watch— that McCain is following her father’s maverick playbook, CNN reports. But he, at least, “backs up his views with a lifetime of sacrifice and public service.” More »

GOP Gulps as $150K Threads Fray Palin Cred

(Newser) - The $150,000 pricetag for Sarah Palin's new clothes has transformed the hockey mom into something of an empress, the New York Times reports, and GOP strategists are sweating the change in image. As the campaign enters the homestretch, Palin's unplain threads have become a symbol of excess akin to John McCain's seven homes or John Edwards' $400 haircuts—undermining the appeal to Joe Sixpack she's staked her candidacy on. GOP Foots $150K Bill for Palin Clothing, Makeup

(Newser) - Sarah Palin apparently isn't kidding when she stresses the importance of lipstick to a hockey mom: the RNC spent $5000 on hair and makeup en route to racking up a $150,000 bill for clothing and accessories for Palin and her family since John McCain picked her as his runningmate. The $75,000 dropped at Neiman Marcus, among other spending sprees, have raised legal issues, but the RNC defends its expenditures, Politico reports. More »

The Private Wealth Behind McCain's Public Life

(Newser) - John McCain is one of the wealthiest men in the Senate, but the McCain fortune is less open to scrutiny than that of most lawmakers, the New York Times reports, since the vast bulk of it remains solely in the name of wife Cindy. She has a controlling stake in the privately held beer distribution company inherited from her father, which nets her an estimated $5 million a year, and her investments carry few disclosure requirements.
