Colmes Ditches Hannity, Will Remain at Fox News

(Newser) - After 12 years as co-host of Hannity & Colmes, the liberal half of the Fox News standby, Alan Colmes, will leave the show at the end of the year. He's working on a weekend show for the network, which will keep him on as a commentator, Broadcasting & Cable reports. "I’ll genuinely miss sparring with such a skillful debate partner," Sean Hannity said. More »

Fear Not, Righties: Fairness Doctrine Isn't Coming Back

(Newser) - Conservatives are beating their war drums with warnings that the Obama administration will torpedo them by reinstituting the so-called fairness doctrine. ‘Liberal’ Greta Van Susteren continues the twisted saga of Fox News’ coverage of the ruckus stirred up by former McCain staffers pointing their fingers of blame at Sarah Palin. For reporting that is an embarrassment to the profession of journalism, and for being beholden to corporate paymasters rather than the citizens of America. John Edwards spoke of the Two Americas, displaying the contrast between the haves and the have-nots. President-elect Barack Obama said we are not red and blue states, we are the United States of America. Then we have Hannity's America. Unlike the first two examples, an inclusive portrayal of different segments of one country, Hannity's America is a very limited concept, a bubble where deep thought, common sense, understanding, and tolerance...

    • Fox Isn't Flag-Waving, Just Angry

      Fox Isn't Flag-Waving, Just Angry

(Newser) - The conservative movement is at a crossroads, torn between its intellectuals (think David Brooks) and its shouters (think Rush Limbaugh). As TV’s main conservative voice, Fox News could tip the scales, so Isaac Chotiner of the New Republic watched as much of the channel as he could. His verdict isn’t kind. “Once the network of optimistic, flag-waving jingoism,” he writes, “Fox has become a beacon of sky-is-falling fury.” More »
