Hundreds of thousands lined the streets of Philadelphia this afternoon to celebrate the Phillies' World Series victory. Under clear, sunny skies, the city's famously ill-tempered fans were ebullient and well-behaved, the AP reports. “It's like Christmas came two months early,” manager Charlie Manuel said. Added pitcher Jamie Moyer, who attended the team's only other World Series victory celebration in 1980 as a truant teen: “Today tops it by far.”

The streets of Philadelphia were mobbed with celebrating Phillies fans into today’s wee hours, with some directing enthusiastic violence at cars and shop windows, the Inquirer reports. Firemen responding to street blazes had to turn their hoses on uncooperative revelers, and sporadic looting was reported. Still, the overall scene was one of joy at the end of a 28-year drought.

Baseball weather, it's not. When the World Series resumes tonight in Philly, the forecast calls for temperatures in the 30s and a wind chill below freezing, MSNBC reports. The Phillies and Rays will pick up where Monday's night's Game 5 left off: tied at 2 in the bottom of the sixth. The Phillies, 28 years without a title, lead the Series 3-1. If Tampa Bay pulls through tonight, game six will be in balmy Florida.

With all the late starts and later finishes plaguing the World Series, many are pining for an old-fashioned day game—including Bud Selig. The commish says he’d love to schedule an afternoon contest, if only Fox would let him. But the network insists on starting in prime time, when it can fetch more eyeballs and ad dollars. “We pay the money for the rights to televise baseball,” said Fox Sports’ president. “Nobody is giving us a rebate to change that scenario.”

A forecast of high winds, heavy rain, and even snow in Philadelphia tonight moved Major League Baseball to push the conclusion of Game 5 of the World Series until at least tomorrow, NBC10 reports. “While obviously we want to finish Game 5 as soon as possible, the forecast for today does not allow for us to continue the game this evening,” commissioner Bud Selig said. The game was tied 2-2 in the sixth inning.

Torrential rain in Philadelphia forced the suspension of tonight's World Series Game 5 midway through the sixth inning with the Tampa Bay Rays and the Phillies tied at 2. Carlos Pena tied the score on a two-out RBI single before Evan Longoria lined out and the umpiring crew called for the tarp. The contest will resume Tuesday night at 8, the Inquirer reports—weather permitting. The Phillies lead the best-of-seven series, 3-1.

Ryan Howard homered twice and drove in five runs, and the Phillies beat the Tampa Bay Rays, 10-2, in Game 4 of the World Series tonight in Philadelphia. The Fightin' Phils are one victory away from capturing the second World Series title in franchise history. They wouldn't be here without their big slugger. Nobody's watching the World Series, and this year, writes Gene Wojciechowski for ESPN, everybody's missing out. Both the Rays and the Phillies came from behind to get here. They’re both managed by colorful characters: One wears a Mohawk, and the other would “rather swallow a wad of chaw.” The games are full of great rookies and vets, and “have been decided by a grand total of four runs.”

The game didn't begin until 10:06pm because of a rain delay, and it didn't end until 1:47am. Ruiz, Chase Utley, and Ryan Howard homered for the Phils.
