      Proposed Law Pushes College Football Playoffs

      (Newser) - A flustered Texas lawmaker has decided to fix the college football ranking system that he says "constantly misfires" in sending the two best teams to the championship, the AP reports. Rep. Joe Barton is introducing a bill that would "prohibit the marketing, promotion, and advertising of a postseason game as a 'national championship' football game, unless it is the result of a playoff system."  More »

      BCS Rejects Plan to Turn System Into 4-Team Playoff

      (Newser) - Even a three-game playoff was too much for the BCS. Bowl Championship Series officials rejected a plan Wednesday to turn the much-criticized system for deciding a national champ into a playoff involving four teams, starting in the 2010 season. The authors of the resolution say  the system restricts trade because only the biggest schools seem to have a shot at being voted into the championship game.       UGA President Wants to Scrap BCS for Playoff

      (Newser) - If University of Georgia President Michael Adams had his way there would be less to gripe about at the water cooler during the bowl season. Adams, who is chairman of the NCAA’s executive committee, wants to replace the confounding Bowl Championship Series with an eight-team playoff. He believes that the chances are “at least 50-50” that his proposal will pass, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. More »
