The longtime Cubs fan and prospective owner watched Geovany Soto hit two three-run homers as Chicago pounded the Milwaukee Brewers 19-5 on Wednesday night. It was the Cubs' biggest outburst since a 20-1 whipping of the Los Angles Dodgers on May 5, 2001.

John Lannan pitched four-hit ball for seven innnings, and Wily Mo Pena and Wil Nieves had back-to-back RBI singles to lead the Washington Nationals to a 2-0 win over Chicago on Sunday. Lannan (2-2) matched a career high with his seven innings, struck out three, walked four and didn't allow a hit until Ronny Cedeno singled to start the fifth.

Carlos Zambrano pitched five-hit ball over seven innings, Derrek Lee drove in three runs and the Chicago Cubs beat the Washington Nationals 7-0 tonight. Zambrano (4-1) walked four and struck out five to improve to 86-56 for his career and help the Cubs snap a two-game skid. Since entering Chicago's rotation for good on July 1, 2002, his 45 road victories rank second in the major leagues.

Wil Nieves hit his first major league homer, a two-run shot in the ninth inning, to give the Washington Nationals a 5-3 win over the Chicago Cubs on Friday night. Nieves drove an 0-2 pitch from Chicago's Bob Howry (0-2) into the Washington bullpen in right field for the Nationals' second straight victory after dropping 16 of 19 games.

Cook (3-1) won his third straight start and halted the Cubs' six-game win streak. Chicago had won nine of its last 10 games.

The lovable losers' 10,000th win was a memorable one. The Chicago Cubs beat the Colorado Rockies 7-6 on Ryan Theriot's RBI single off Kip Wells with two outs in the 10th inning last night. Both teams blew ninth-inning leads with their closers, but it was the Rockies who ended up losing their fourth straight game when leading after seven innings.
