      (Newser) - Bad news for Sammy Sosa's Hall of Fame hopes: The Cubs slugger is among the players who tested positive for doping in 2003, the New York Times reports. The retired Sosa, sixth on the all-time homer list, has long been suspected of taking steroids but has never admitted it.       (Newser) - The New York Yankees' $1.5 billion valuation lands them solidly in the top spot in the Forbes ranking of baseball's most valuable teams. The crosstown Mets came second, trailing by almost $600 million. The Yanks, however, were one of only two teams to lose money last season, dropping $3.7 million.       (Newser) - It looks like the Cubs are returning to family ownership, the Chicago Tribune reports. The billionaire Ricketts family is the winning bidder to buy the baseball team from Sam Zell's Tribune Co. The $900 million deal isn't sealed yet—other baseball owners must approve, for one thing—but it's expected to be complete before spring training in April. The Wrigley family owned the team for 65 years before selling to Tribune in 1981. More »

The chairman of the team, which is in the midst of a century-long title drought, says it is reviewing bids and could have a deal in place by February.       (Newser) - Four-time Cy Young winner Greg Maddux confirmed today that his 355th win was his last, the Las Vegas Sun reports. “I’m 42, and I have two kids and a wife,” said the eight-time all-star, who finished his 23-year career with a stint on the Los Angeles Dodgers.       (Newser) - Lou Piniella and his Tampa Bay successor, Joe Maddon, have been voted baseball’s managers of the year, MLB.com reports. Maddon’s first-ever recognition is no surprise after he led the Rays to their first-ever winning season and the American League pennant. Wrigley Field is a baseball stadium in Chicago that has served as the home ballpark of the Chicago Cubs since 1916. It was built in 1914 as Weeghman Park for the Chicago Federal League baseball team, the Chicago Whales. It was also the home of the Chicago Bears of the National Football League from 1921-1970.
