  (Newser) - San Francisco slugger Barry Bonds knocked two balls out of Wrigley Field today, bringing him two away from tying homer-leader Hank Aaron at 755. Driving in six runs, the pair ended an 0-for-21 slump and saved Bonds from matching his career-worst hitless streak.   (Newser) - Four days after Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano sent his battery partner Michael Barrett to the hospital with a split lip, manager Lou Piniella resolved their differences in a 10-minute reconciliation meeting. Piniella himself is serving a four-game suspension for kicking dirt at an umpire. Barrett will catch Zambrano in the future. More »

  (Newser) - Cubs right-hander Mark Prior underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery Tuesday and will not pitch again this year. An 18-game winner in 2003, Prior has been on the DL once in each of his six big-league seasons but had not had shoulder surgery before.   (Newser) - Team USA executive director Jerry Colangelo and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban are the two individuals most likely to buy the Cubs, argues Jon Heyman.   (Newser) - Chicago real estate magnate Sam Zell won a last-minute bidding war to buy the Tribune Compay with a $34-a-share offer, reports the Chicago Tribune. Zell will take the media conglomerate private in a deal that includes an employee stock ownership plan. The Cubs will be sold separately. More »
