      (Newser) - The wildfires blazing through San Diego County forced 40 Chargers to evacuate their homes, including star running back LaDainian Tomlinson. The team cancelled practice today due to poor air quality, and will move their operations to Arizona for the rest of the week. It is not yet clear whether the fires will affect Sunday’s home game against Houston, reports the AP. More »

      (Newser) - After chalking up an eight-run lead and then watching it dwindle, the Diamondbacks held on to win 8-7 and move back ahead of San Diego in the NL West. D'backs closer Jose Valverde gave up a solo homer to Milton Bradley in the ninth before striking out two Padres to end the game and earn his 41st save of the season, reports the Arizona Republic.
