Nolan Nabs Martz to Run 49ers Offense

(Newser) - San Francisco set the standard in 2007 for offensive moribundity, but that may change next year; the San Francisco Chronicle reports that coach Mike Nolan hired offensive whiz Mike Martz to revamp a unit that trailed the league in scoring and yards. 49ers 3rd String Stymies Bengals

(Newser) - Cincinnati may have thought last night's game was in the bag: San Francisco sat in the dregs of the NFC, boasted one of the weakest offenses, and was starting its third-string quarterback. But Shaun Hill made the first start of his six NFL seasons count, going 21-for-28 to accumulate 197 yards and a 20-13 Niners victory, the Chronicle reports. More »

    • Clements' Coverage

Pro Bowl cornerback Nate Clements was a marked man this off-season when his services became available at the start of free agency. The 49ers made quick work of getting him signed, sealed and delivered in San Francisco, and this season Clements will trade off every other week previewing the upcoming opponent in his column Clements' Coverage. We did some good things against Arizona, but we did some things that we also need to correct. There%u2019s always room for improvement but the most important thing was that we got the win. I just relaxed after the win and celebrating by taking it easy, but...

    • 49ers Top Off Walsh Tribute with a W

The 49ers prepared numerous ways to honor Hall of Fame legend Bill Walsh, who passed away at the end of July, during the season opener on Monday night, but sometimes carefully laid plans turn out even better than expected. The 49ers nail biting 20-17 thriller over the Arizona Cardinals put the icing on the cake on an already touching pregame and halftime tribute to Walsh. %u201CIt was nice to give back to a guy who really helped start this whole thing, my hat goes off to him and what he%u2019s done, and the legacy he%u2019s left behind,%u201D said defensive end Bryant Young who like the rest...

    • 49ers Welcome Back Trio of Starters

Since meeting and exchanging tips during the Pro Bowl in Hawaii, Frank Gore has truly come to admire and respect Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson. However, looking across the field last Thursday night and seeing that Tomlinson wasn%u2019t participating in the final preseason game either did nothing to appease the 49ers starting running back. %u201CWe talked about it and he told me not to worry about not playing in the preseason, but it%u2019s different when you can practice. I could understand better if I was practicing and my coaches wanted to hold me out of the game, but I was out...
