The actor dropped out of The Three Stooges and the crime thriller Cartel , and sources say his sabbatical from Tinseltown could last up to a year. His part in Cartel will be recast, but the Farrelly brothers have not revealed plans for the high-profile Stooges .

Singing cowboy Roy Rogers and his horse, Trigger, will be the inspiration for a new trilogy of Westerns, Variety reports. Roy Rogers Jr., who controls the late movie star's estate, struck a deal with a Nashville-based production company that says it will reinvent the '40s and '50s big-screen favorite as "a family fantasy adventure" for a new generation—an effort that includes a TV cartoon and interactive games.

Audience reactions were filmed as ushers walked up and down the aisles with donation jars.

Audiences couldn’t shake The Hangover as the crude comedy stayed on top for the second weekend in a row, gulping down $33.4 million, USA Today reports. Up held on tight with $30.5 million, while The Taking of Pelham 123 —the weekend’s only debut in the top five—made off with $25 million. Night at the Museum: The Battle of the Smithsonian and Land of the Lost took in $9.6 million and $9.2 million respectively.

David Carradine’s family has asked the FBI to look into his death, the New York Daily News reports. “They want an investigation,” said a lawyer for Carradine’s brother. The 72-year-old actor was found in a hotel closet in Bankok with a rope tied to his neck and genitals. Thai police first suspected suicide but now think he died while engaged in a sex act. The family wants the FBI to help sort it all out. Carradine's body, meanwhile, is being returned to the US.

The actor—found dead Thursday with ropes tied around his neck and genitals—was "joyous and productive," associates say. He played piano and serenaded guests in the hotel lobby several nights last week and had booked a dinner for himself and friends Thursday evening.
