Brewers Won't Ban Brew In Clubhouse

(Newser) - The Milwaukee Brewers will not be enacting a clubhouse ban on alcohol, bucking a trend started by the A's and Yankees after St. Louis reliever Josh Hancock died in a drunk driving accident. Ten other clubs already have such a ban; the Brewers, who play in Miller Park, announced yesterday they wouldn't be among them. More »

      Opportunistic Brewers Maul Cardinals, 4-0

(Newser) - The Brewers have the best record in baseball after a sweep of the 2006 world champs, the Cardinals, who are still stunned by the death of reliever Josh Hancock in a car crash last weekend. At 18-9, Milwaukee is nine games over .500 for the first time since 1998, and won despite losing starter Chris Capuano to injury. More »

    • Brewers denied season sweep of Phils

PHILADELPHIA -- For the first time in six Brewers-Phillies matchups this season, the game was decided before the ninth inning. This time, the Brewers came up a little bit short. Though the Brewers were defeated, 6-2, before a crowd of 35,674 Sunday at Citizens Bank Park, they managed to take two of three in the series and five of six games against the Phils this season. "Not our best," Brewers manager Ned Yost said. "We had opportunities. We didn't capitalize offensively and defensively." The Brewers had 11 hits and left 12 runners on base, which usually is consistent with not capitalizing...

    • Overbay leaves game with nasty cut

ST. LOUIS -- Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Lyle Overbay left Tuesday night's game against the St. Louis Cardinals in the bottom of the first inning after suffering a laceration to his jaw while chasing down a popup into the stands. Overbay was bleeding from the cut when he left the field and required 17 stitches. He was replaced by Jeff Cirillo, who reached base in three of his four plate appearances and scored the Brewers' first run. Brewers manager Ned Yost said Overbay would probably miss Wednesday afternoon's game. Shortly after the Cardinals went ahead 2-0 on a two-run double by Albert...
