      (AP) - The man charged in the shooting death of abortion provider Dr. George Tiller warned today that more violence is possible. Scott Roeder, being held on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault in Tiller's killing one week ago, called the AP from jail.       Carradine Family Wants FBI to Investigate Death

      (Newser) - David Carradine’s family has asked the FBI to look into his death, the New York Daily News reports. “They want an investigation,” said a lawyer for Carradine’s brother. The 72-year-old actor was found in a hotel closet in Bankok with a rope tied to his neck and genitals. Thai police first suspected suicide but now think he died while engaged in a sex act. The family wants the FBI to help sort it all out. Carradine's body, meanwhile, is being returned to the US. More »

      (Newser) - Federal investigators have opened a probe into the murder of abortion provider George Tiller, the AP reports. The Justice Department’s civil rights division will decide if Scott Roeder violated a federal law imposing criminal penalties for harmful conduct against abortion providers and patients. In a brief jailhouse phone interview, Roeder complained of “being treated as a criminal.” More »

      (Newser) - A New York man’s decomposed body was found yesterday in a minivan peppered with parking tickets issued by officers who apparently didn’t notice the corpse, the Daily News reports. “The window was cracked open,” said the daughter of George Morales. “I don't understand how no one noticed him.” She suspects her father had a heart attack. Police discovered the body when they attempted to tow the vehicle, which was parked under an overpass. More »

      (Newser) - The Secret Service is hunting a man who took all of his money out of a Utah bank and told the teller he was on a "mission to kill" the president, the Salt Lake Tribune.       (Newser) - An Alabama man will serve 12 months in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the death of his wife off Australia's Great Barrier Reef, the Guardian reports. Gabe Watson, an experienced diver trained in rescue procedures, made no attempt to save his wife, a novice diver, as she sank to the sea floor, and instead kicked to the surface. The pair had been married just 11 days. Watson was later filmed snipping away flowers from his wife's grave placed there by her family. More »

      11 Mutilated Bodies Found in Arizona Van in Mexico

      (Newser) - Mexican police have found the shot and mutilated bodies of 11 men in a stolen van with Arizona plates near the US border, Reuters reports. The arms and legs of most of the bodies had been hacked off. Threatening messages believed to be from a drug cartel were left with the corpses. Police believe the same drug gang shot at a police station with heavy-caliber weapons the previous day. More »

      (Newser) - A yearbook featuring pictures of alleged murderer Casey Anthony has sold for $500 on eBay, the Orlando Sentinel reports. The 23-year-old, accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter, appears in junior class and travel and tourism club photos. The seller told the Sentinel she “randomly” purchases yearbooks at estate auctions; she’s sold books containing the mugs of John Lennon shooter Mark David Chapman and football player Daunte Culpepper.       (Newser) - A North Carolina man faces first-degree rape charges after arranging for the rape of his wife via Craigslist, police said. The 25-year-old, who advertised for someone to have sex with his wife using “scare tactics,” was in the room as a man with a knife carried out the attack, the AP reports. The couple’s kids were also home at the time, though they weren’t aware of what was happening. More »

      (Newser) - Lawyers for accused kidnapper “Clark Rockefeller” began their insanity defense today with testimony from a psychologist who said he has a deluded sense of self-importance and fantasies of unlimited power, the Boston Globe reports. “If there is a continuum of narcissistic personality disorder, he is on the far end of the continuum,” she testified, saying the condition kept Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter from recognizing “the wrongfulness of his actions.” More »

The police are seeking witnesses “who might have seen vehicles parked in that general area around 1am Wednesday morning or anyone walking along the roadway.” Seven people escaped the Grand View Topless Coffee Shop in Vassalboro as it burned, and no one was hurt.       (Newser) - Philadelphia vigilantes attacked a man they suspect raped an 11-year-old girl on Monday, leaving him in critical condition, the Inquirer reports. Police thanked the mob for helping nab Jose Carrasquillo, 26, considered a person of interest because physical evidence links him to the rape site. "I'm glad," the victim's mother said of the beating. "He deserves worse." More »

      (Newser) - The Institute for Economics and Peace has released its annual list of the world’s most peaceful countries, Bloomberg reports. The index is based on things like "international security" and "tolerant solidarity." New Zealand is No. 1; the US is No. 83. A sampling: New Zealand: A new government and little strife make the island's 4.2 million people the most peaceful in the world. Denmark.       (Newser) - A man approached a Long Island convenience store counter with a baseball bat, demanding cash; the shop owner whipped out his shotgun, prompting the man’s tearful pleas for mercy. The impassioned display worked, Newsday reports: Mohammad Sohail took pity on the robber and gave him $40 and a loaf of bread. “He was saying: 'I have no money. I have no food. I have no job.       (Newser) - A pregnant British woman convicted of drug trafficking in Laos last year has been handed a life sentence, AFP reports. Samantha Orobator, 20, who was nabbed while trying to board a plane to Thailand, had been found found guilty of trafficking 1.5 pounds of heroin, said a UK embassy spokesman. A newly signed prisoner transfer agreement may allow Orobator to serve her sentence in Britain. More »

      Man Charged With Raping Woman Live on Webcam

      (Newser) - Police have busted a Phoenix man they say posted a live feed of his rape of a woman on the Internet, reports the Arizona Republic . Suspect Jonathan Hock, 20, set up a web cam before assaulting an unconscious date in his home, according to investigators. The victim learned of the assault after friends spotted the video online. Hock has an Internet following, and police believe he may have posted other sex assaults. He has been charged with sexual assault and surreptitious video taping. More »
