Lohse, Cardinals Complete Sweep of Nationals

The Cardinals haven't been slowed by all those injuries. Kyle Lohse allowed four hits in seven innings, Rick Ankiel homered and St. Louis completed a three-game sweep of the Washington Nationals with a 3-0 victory Sunday. Lohse (1-0), who signed as a free agent on March 14, has thrown 12 scoreless innings in two starts. More »

The surprising Cardinals are 3-1, two games above .500 for the first time since the end of the 2006 season, and handed the Nationals their second straight loss after a 3-0 start. More »

New GM in the Cards: Mozeliak

After having forced out Walt Jocketty, St. Louis hired his protege, John Mozeliak, as their new general manager, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The move surprised some in the industry who expected 33-year-old Mark Antonetti, assistant general manager with Cleveland, to take the job. • Cardinals' playoff hopes diminish

ST. LOUIS -- The Cardinals put a punctuation mark of sorts on their world championship defense Sunday. But it wasn't an exclamation point, a period or even a question mark. It was more like the three dots of an ellipsis, leaving the final two weeks of the season to tail off quietly. A 4-2 loss to the Cubs dropped St. Louis seven games behind first-place Chicago with 14 games remaining, and no more head-to-head meetings between the two rivals. Milwaukee also stands in the Cardinals' way, one game out of first place and six ahead of the three-time defending National League Central champions. The...

      Philly Loses 10,000th Game

Philadelphia became the first Major League Baseball franchise to reach 10,000 losses yesterday, after a lopsided defeat by St. Louis; the 127-year-old club is now 8,810-10,000, a record that reflects one championship season and many more of total futility.
