O's Owner the Apparent Snag in Bedard Deal

A proposed trade of Orioles rising star and left-handed pitcher Erik Bedard still awaits the blessing of Peter Angelos, reports ESPN. Bedard, who won 13 for Baltimore last year, would go to Seattle for a package of prospects including outfielder Adam Jones. There are no guarantees, though, as Angelos is notorious for vetoing deals. The Baltimore Orioles traded disenchanted shortstop Miguel Tejada to the Houston Astros today for five players, the Baltimore Sun reports. • Notes: No good news for Bedard

BOSTON -- The news may not be dire, but it doesn't appear to be promising. Baltimore ace Erik Bedard hasn't made much progress with his strained right oblique and could be out for the foreseeable future. Bedard was originally slated to miss one start, but hasn't been able to throw, lift weights or do any other baseball-related activities. "It's extremely frustrating to have this at the end of the year when you're having a good year," said Bedard, who leads the Major Leagues with 221 strikeouts. "It's not the way you want to finish the year, but what can you do?" The Orioles don't have to worry...

    • Record rout: Rangers win, 30-3

BALTIMORE %u2013 No need to step lightly here. Put simply the Rangers put a beating on the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday, the likes of which has never been seen before. At least not since fielders started wearing gloves. In the first game of what was supposed to be just a harmless doubleheader between two teams going nowhere, the Rangers scored and scored and scored some more. When their bats finally stopped smoking, they had branded the Orioles with a 30-3 loss. It was the first time since 1900, considered the beginning of the "modern era" that a team had reached 30 runs. It's also the largest...

      Yanks Down Orioles, 10-6

The Yankees snapped a three-game losing streak with a 10-6 outing against Baltimore yesterday. A struggling Johnny Damon came up big for New York, posting three hits, four runs, and one spectacular catch in left field that stymied a fourth-inning Orioles rally. Alex Rodriguez came up empty in his bid for home run 500, going 0-2 with an intentional walk in the seventh. More »
