      (Newser) - The New York Yankees' $1.5 billion valuation lands them solidly in the top spot in the Forbes ranking of baseball's most valuable teams. The crosstown Mets came second, trailing by almost $600 million. The Yanks, however, were one of only two teams to lose money last season, dropping $3.7 million. The Detroit Tigers lost a whopping $26.3 million. More »

      (Newser) - Elijah Dukes hit a home run against the New York Yankees in his first major league at-bat. A few weeks later, the then-Tampa Bay Devil Ray threatened to kill his estranged wife and their two young children. That about sums up how Dukes' career has gone, reports ESPN . “Why is he so angry?       (Newser) - Luke Scott homered, Melvin Mora hit a tiebreaking double in the fifth inning and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Washington Nationals 5-3 Friday night for their sixth win in seven games. Left-hander Garrett Olson (3-0) struggled through five innings but remained undefeated in four starts since being recalled from Triple-A.       (Newser) - Ryan Zimmerman hit a long homer and Tim Redding pitched two-hit ball for six innings, sending the Washington Nationals to a 5-3 victory over the New York Mets on Wednesday night.       (Newser) - Ryan Church homered, doubled and drove in four runs against his former team and John Maine pitched six sharp innings to lead the New York Mets over the Washington Nationals 6-3 on Tuesday night. A night after Mets starter Nelson Figueroa called the Nationals "softball girls" for cheering in the dugout during his loss, Maine (5-2) hit Felipe Lopez with his first pitch of the game. More »

      Uggla, Marlins Slam Nationals; Win Sixth Straight

      (Newser) - Dan Uggla drove in five runs, Andrew Miller allowed two hits in seven innings and the Florida Marlins routed the Washington Nationals 11-0 tonight for their sixth straight win. The Marlins' winning streak is their longest since they won nine in a row from Aug. 20-29, 2005. Florida (22-14) is eight games over .500 for the first time since Sept. 18, 2005. More »

      (Newser) - Ricky Nolasco joined the first-place Florida Marlins' win parade with six strong innings, and Luis Gonzalez passed the 1,400 career RBIs mark with a bases-loaded double last night in a 7-3 victory over the Washington Nationals. Nolasco (2-3) broke a personal three-game losing streak, getting his first win in nearly a month, as the Marlins ran their winning streak to a season-high five games. More »

      Nats Snap Astros Winning Streak

      (Newser) - Willie Harris and Rob Mackowiak homered to help the Washington Nationals beat Houston 8-3 last night and end the Astros' five-game winning streak. John Lannan (3-3) allowed seven hits in six innings and the Nationals snapped Houston's eight-game winning streak at Minute Maid Park. The Astros averaged 7.3 runs and 11.5 hits in their previous eight home games. More »

      Lee Leads Astros Over Nats 4-3

      (Newser) - Carlos Lee drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Houston Astros to a 4-3 win over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday night. Lee's single, that flew just over the head of Lastings Milledge, scored Kaz Matsui and gave Houston its fifth straight victory. Matsui walked and stole second in the ninth before Joel Hanrahan (0-2) intentionally walked Lance Berkman. More »

      Lee's 2-run double leads Astros over Nats 6-5

      (Newser) - Carlos Lee had the go-ahead two-run double in the eighth inning and Lance Berkman had a career-high five hits to lead the Houston Astros to a 6-5 win over the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night. Miguel Tejada and Berkman both singled in the eighth before Lee's hit to right field. Austin Kearns dived for the ball, but it bounced just in front of him. More »

      (Newser) - Aaron Boone homered as the Washington Nationals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2 today. Tim Redding (4-2) closed out an 11-game homestand, Washington's longest of the season, by helping the Nationals to their sixth victory in seven games. Washington finished the homestand 8-3. Redding allowed one run over 6 1-3 innings, gave up six hits, no walks and struck out five. More »

      Guzman's 6 RBIs Power Nationals

      (Newser) - Cristian Guzman tied a career high with six RBIs, including a tiebreaking three-run double in the sixth inning, and the Washington Nationals held off the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-8 today. Guzman went 4-for-5 and scored two runs for the Nationals, who have won five of six. He also had six RBIs on June 24, 2001, for Minnesota at Detroit.       (Newser) - Jose Bautista homered twice and drove in four runs and the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated Washington 11-4 on Friday, ending the Nationals' winning streak at a season-high four games. Ryan Doumit and Chris Gomez had two RBIs apiece for the Pirates, who also got five innings of one-hit ball from their bullpen, led by winner Damaso Marte (2-0). More »

      (Newser) - Austin Kearns broke a tie with a two-out RBI single in the eighth inning, and the Washington Nationals ran their winning streak to a season-high four games last night with a 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Luis Ayala (1-1) pitched the eighth to get the victory in a game played at a torrid pace - 2 hours, 4 minutes. More »

      (Newser) - The Atlanta Braves simply cannot win a one-run game. Felipe Lopez's bases-loaded hit to left with no outs in the 12th lifted the Washington Nationals to a 3-2 victory over the Braves on Wednesday, dropping Atlanta to 0-9 in games decided by the slimmest possible margin. More »
