  (Newser) - Chicago Cubs catcher Geovany Soto and Tampa Bay third baseman Evan Longoria were named the rookies of the year today in the National and American leagues, respectively. Soto, 25, was voted an All-Star Game starter and finished the season with a .285 batting average, 23 home runs, and 86 RBI, the Tribune reports. He easily beat out Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto. More »

  (Newser) - The Red Sox traded Manny Ramirez at the deadline today, shipping the disgruntled outfielder to the Dodgers in a three-way deal that sends outfielder Jason Bay from Pittsburgh to Boston, reports New England Sports Network. Earlier, Ken Griffey Jr. agreed to a trade from the Reds to the White Sox, boosting the odds that the 20-year veteran will finally play in a World Series, Fox Sports reports. More »

  (Newser) - Forget Ken Griffey Jr. The Reds outfielder to keep an eye on is rookie Jay Bruce, the 21-year-old whose shirt sold out within 24 hours at the Great American Ball Park store. In his debut week, Bruce reached base in 22 of 33 tries, with 15 hits and 12 runs scored, SI reports. And he's a nice guy, too. More »

  (Newser) - Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 600th career homer last night to join Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, and Sammy Sosa as the only players to do so. Griffey connected off Mark Hendrickson in the first inning of the Cincinnati Reds' 9-4 victory over the Florida Marlins, the AP reports. The 38-year-old slugger hit a 3-1 pitch 413 feet into the right-field seats with Jerry Hairston on third and one out. More »
