  (Newser) - The NHL is taking Sean Avery out of commission for six games without pay following his lewd comments in Calgary this week, the New York Post reports. The ruling is retroactive and covers two games the Dallas Stars forward has already missed, but is also means he won’t play in a three-game homestand. Avery has also been ordered, and agreed to, seek anger management therapy. More »

  (Newser) - Jeremy Roenick didn't come out of semiretirement for just one playoff round. The veteran San Jose center carried the Sharks one step closer to the Stanley Cup Tuesday night. Roenick had two goals and two assists, including the tying and go-ahead scores midway through the Sharks' four-goal second period in a 5-3 victory over the Calgary Flames in Game 7, finishing their first-round playoff series.   (Newser) - Miika Kirpusoff made 21 saves, as Owen Nolan and Daymond Langkow both scored to lead the Calgary Flames over the San Jose Sharks 2-0 last night to force a Game 7.   (Newser) - Joe Thornton's first goal of playoffs was a big one. Thornton scored the winner with just 9.4 seconds left in regulation to give the San Jose Sharks a 3-2 win over the Calgary Flames in Game 4 on Tuesday night, evening their first-round series. Thornton tipped Douglas Murray's shot from the point past Flames goalie Miikka Kiprusoff to win a game the Sharks trailed twice. More »

  (Newser) - Owen Nolan scored with 3:45 left as the Calgary Flames rallied from a three-goal deficit early in the first period and beat the San Jose Sharks 4-3 Sunday night. Ryane Clowe, Patrick Marleau and Doug Murray scored in the first 3:33 against Miikka Kiprusoff. Veteran backup Curtis Joseph then replaced Kiprusoff and shut down the Sharks the rest of way. More »

Stephane Yelle scored two goals, Miikka Kiprusoff made 37 saves and the seventh-seeded Flames stunned the NHL's second-best regular season team in their first-round opener, beating the Sharks 3-2 on Wednesday night. Eric Nystrom scored his second goal with 1:42 left, and also added two assists, including the cross-crease feed for Iginla's milestone goal with 7:25 left, giving Calgary's captain 50 goals for a second time, and a career-best 98 points.   (Newser) - Marian Gaborik and the Minnesota Wild won the Northwest Division at home, and that's where they'll start the playoffs. Gaborik scored two third-period goals to help the Wild beat the Calgary Flames 3-1 tonight for the first division title in franchise-history. Minnesota's Jacques Lemaire also earned his 500th career victory. and became the 12th coach in NHL history to reach that mark. More »
