      (Newser) - Johan Franzen outscored the Colorado Avalanche by himself. His second hat trick in three games fueled the Detroit Red Wings' 8-2 rout last night that completed a sweep of the Avalanche. Franzen needed just 10 playoff games to score 11 goals and break the Red Wings' record for most goals in one postseason, which was held by three players, including Brett Hull. More »

      (Newser) - The usually heated Colorado-Detroit matchup has never been this one-sided, on the scoreboard or in the trainer's room. Pavel Datsyuk scored twice and Johan Franzen picked up his sixth goal of the series, putting the Red Wings on the cusp of the Western Conference finals with a 4-3 victory Tuesday night over the ailing Avalanche.       (Newser) - Johan Franzen and the Detroit Red Wings are kicking the Colorado Avalanche when they're down. Franzen scored three times to lift Detroit to a 5-1 victory today over the banged-up Avs, giving them a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference semifinal. Wojtek and Stastny scored 79 seconds apart early in the third period to give Theodore and the patient Avs a 3-2 victory and a 3-2 series lead, after weathering a relentless effort by the Wild.       (Newser) - No fluke finish to this one. No overtime, either. Jose Theodore stopped 24 of 25 shots and the Colorado Avalanche used a three-goal first-period to rout the Minnesota Wild 5-1 on Tuesday night, tying their first-round playoff series at two games each. The first three games of the series—as well as the last two when these two teams met in the 2003 playoffs—all went into overtime and ended in 3-2 scores. More »

Sakic tipped in a shot by Ruslan Salei from the point midway through the first overtime period, his eighth career playoff goal in extra time, to send the Colorado Avalanche past the Minnesota Wild 3-2 on Wednesday night.       (Newser) - The Minnesota Wild bounced back from an awful loss to Edmonton Monday to beat the Oilers 3-1 last night, reports the Minneapolis Star Tribune . Niklas Backstrom made 32 saves for the Wild, who jumped over idle Calgary for first place in the Northwest Division.       (Newser) - The Edmonton Oilers got exactly what they needed today with a 7-5 win over the Colorado Avalanche, reports the Associated Press, as Edmonton's 11th win in 14 games moved the Oilers within three points of the Avalanche for the final playoff spot in the West. Sam Gagner had two goals for the Oilers, but Dustin Penner got things going with a goal 50 seconds into the game. More »

      (Newser) - Three different Minnesota players scored as the Wild topped the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 and gained sole possession of first place in the Northwest Division. Minnesota has a two-point lead over second place Calgary and Colorado.
