Another Misguided Selfie: 5 Craziest Crimes of Week

A guy who just couldn't stay off Facebook and a dog who's been banned from barking are among the weirdest crime stories of the week:

  • Illegal Pot Growers Foiled by Their Roof: Police near Amsterdam had an easy time zeroing in on a suspected marijuana grow house. Cops reportedly found the heat lamps and pot plants they expected to find inside the Haarlem home. How did they flesh out the stash? Simple. With their own two eyes. While neighboring roofs were covered in snow, the suspected home had ... well, less than the others. The photo is pretty wild.
  • Another Misguided Selfie, Another Suspect in Custody: The latest entry in that ever-growing category of criminal suspects tripped up by their own selfies: Police in Ambridge, Pa., were searching for 22-year-old Donald Harrison on assault charges, but without much luck. That changed when Harrison posted images of himself on Facebook aboard a Greyhound bus, with some descriptive captions.

  • Guy Tries to Stop Robbery, Gets Charged With Felony: Jeff Steele was hanging out at King's Korner bar in La Crosse, Wis., when a masked woman reportedly came in, pointed a handgun at the bartender, and demanded money. The bartender says she saw Steele walking toward the woman with his Taser, and while he didn't appear to actually use it on the suspect, the woman was apparently startled by the sight of it and took off. The suspect was arrested minutes later ... and Steele himself was charged with a felony.
  • Guy Lists Questionable Occupation on Arrest Report: Robert Michael Phillips has seven felony convictions and more than a dozen arrests on his resume. He's been charged with everything from resisting arrest and heroin trafficking to weapons possession by a career criminal and fleeing law enforcement at a high rate of speed (and striking a police animal). But what he reportedly put down as his occupation on his most-recent arrest report was definitely not advisable.
  • Croatian Dog Is Under House Arrest: Poor Medo. An exasperated neighbor in a northern Croatian village has won a temporary court order that says the 3-year-old mutt must stop doing what all dogs do: bark. At least not at night, or his owner will have to pay a fine. Confined to a barn between 8pm and 8am instead of being allowed to roam, Medo is the only dog in Croatia slapped with such an injunction. It's not all bad news: The pup does have a rather astonishing fan base.
