The unidentified flying objects that puzzled New Yorkers and even the FAA have been identified as party balloons by a class of 4th-graders. The kids and school officials say a parent was carrying a bunch of pearl-colored balloons inside the school for a teacher's engagement party when about a dozen escaped. "UFO? They're crazy—those are our balloons!" the school's head tells the New York Daily News. "But now it's all over YouTube."

Mysterious flying objects appeared over Manhattan about an hour after the balloons escaped, and meteorologists say the wind was blowing in the right direction to have blown the party balloons over the city. The sky was exceptionally clear that day, making high-flying objects easily visible from the ground, and experts say helium-filled balloons change shape at high altitudes, making them look abnormal from the ground.
