The Dow broke its up-down streak and rose for the second straight day today to wrap up a wild week. A solid retail sales report seemed to outweigh a negative one on consumer confidence, and Europe's (maybe) stabilizing markets also helped, report MarketWatch and the Wall Street Journal. The numbers:

  • Dow: Up 126 (1%) to 11,269; down 1.5% for the week
  • Nasdaq: Up 15 (.6%) to 2,508; down 1% for the week
  • S&P 500: Up 6 (.5%) to 1,179; down 1.7% for the week
“You’ve got some extremely confused investors out there,” says one analyst at Morgan Keegan. (More Dow Jones stories.)
