Another sad detail from Mindy McCready's final days: The police who found her body were greeted by a tragic scene. Her house smelled of rotting food and dog feces, which were "everywhere," reports People; they also found prescription pills in multiple locations. But they did not find a suicide note, the AP reports. Authorities have sent out her electronic devices to a crime lab in their search for clues. More revelations:

  • Two days before her death, Arkansas' child services department sent McCready a proposed court order regarding her kids going to her mother, from whom McCready was estranged, her friend (and, apparently, unofficial posthumous spokesperson) Danno Hanks tells CNN. That "was the nail in her coffin, the thing that sent her over the edge." McCready and her mother have been in a custody battle for years.
  • McCready had already seen her two sons put in foster care, after a child services agent followed up on a request by McCready's ex (and the father of her older son) to look into the situation. Billy McKnight "felt that she was a danger to her kids and a danger to herself," Hanks explains. McCready tested positive for alcohol (she blamed it on mouthwash), and her children were taken away.
  • As for why she shot the dog first: A source tells Fox News she "really loved" it and probably didn't want to leave it "alone." Hanks tells E! she wanted to "join" dead boyfriend David Wilson and take "the dog with her," since Wilson loved it.
