Following an emotionally fraught week, singer Britney Spears was again taken from her home by ambulance early today to "get help," according to Los Angeles police. Spears was taken to UCLA Medical Center after "driving around the neighborhood like a mad woman," a family source told People magazine. "Britney has been prescribed medication which she refuses to take." Earlier this week the singer's manager said she had begun seeing a psychiatrist for a "treatable" mental problem.

Spears' mother visited her this week, reportedly attempting an "intervention" to pressure her daughter to seek treatment for suspected bipolar disorder. Britney was spotted teary-eyed, sitting on the curb outside her house, clutching her Yorkie terrier in her lap after one of a number of hysterical scenes the last few days. Spears lost visitation rights with her two young sons earlier this month after she barricaded herself in a room with one of the children. (More celebrity stories.)
