(Newser) – If you happened to log onto Twitter Thursday night and saw "THE FRUIT SALAD OF THEIR LIFE" trending, it would be understandable to think the Food Network or the Cooking Channel was up to something big. But it was Ben Carson who woke the Internet up with this phrase—and the topic was, naturally, appointing a new justice to the Supreme Court to replace the late Antonin Scalia. When asked how he would assess a candidate's record, Carson replied, per the Washington Post, "The fruit salad of their life, is what I would look at."

Which was the perfect low-hanging fruit for Twitter, which had a bit of fun during an otherwise policy-heavy debate. One commenter called Carson's words "pure poetry," while another wondered: "Is 'the fruit salad of their life' this election cycle's 'binders full of women'?" Another praised Carson for providing creative inspiration, tweeting, "'The Fruit Salad Of Their Life' is a pretty good band name, thanks Ben." But at least one poster expressed something more akin to dismay. "Did I just hear a presidential candidate say "the fruit salad of their life."?! What is happening on my television right now?
